Laser hair removal is one of the top aesthetic procedures around the world. Both men and women have unwanted, bothersome hair on at least one part of their body that they’d like to part ways with – and not just for a few days or weeks. • How Laser Hair Removal Works

Hair grows by receiving nourishment from blood vessels at the root of the follicle. Laser hair removal prevents future hair growth by targeting and destroying the melanin in the dermal papilla, a structure found at the base of hair follicles. Treatment is very safe and highly effective thanks to our state-of-the-art Cynosure Elite+ Workstation.
During a treatment, our laser sends pulses of light energy onto the desired area. The light safely travels through the skin and specifically targets the melanin in hair follicles without harming any surrounding skin tissue. The light is absorbed by the melanin and converted into heat. The heat then damages the papilla and cells responsible for hair regrowth, ensuring drastic hair reduction in the follicle and surrounding treatment area. Our workstation’s integrated skin cooling feature cools the skin immediately before each laser pulse, ensuring the safest, most comfortable treatments.

  • The Hair Growth Cycle

Laser hair removal is only successful on hairs in the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle. Every hair can be in a different stage of hair growth at any given time: the anagen phase, catagen phase, and telogen phase. During a laser hair removal session, all hairs are targeted in an area with no way of knowing which phase of growth each hair is in. Meaning, only a specific percentage of hairs (those in the anagen phase) successfully respond to laser treatment. The anagen phase, also known as the active growing phase, is when hair is still attached to the dermal papilla. During this phase, hair follicles continue to receive the nutrients and blood supply needed to grow. The catagen phase, also known as the transition phase, is when a hair follicle shrinks and detaches from the papilla. The telogen phase, known as the resting phase, is when the old, detached hair rests in the follicle and is shed by the growth of a new hair, repeating the cycle. For optimal results, multiple treatments are always necessary to target each hair during the anagen phase. On average, most clients will need a minimum of 7 to 10 treatments for long-lasting results.
